Review of Titan Brake Actuator - Surge Brake Actuator - T1735100

Michael: Hi there, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today, we're going to take a quick look at the Titan brake actuator. This is a hydraulic actuator that is going to synchronize your trailer's hydraulic drum brakes with the brakes on your tow vehicle so that your trailer can slow and stop itself. So you're not relying on your tow vehicle to slow and stop both which can obviously add some burden and wear to your tow vehicle's brakes. So this is going to help alleviate that so that your trailer is taking on some of that load for itself. The way that these surge brake systems work, if you're not familiar, so as your tow vehicle is pulling your trailer along, if it starts to slow down, the momentum from your trailer is going to continue to push it forward and then this arm is going to telescope in which will then apply the pressure to your hydraulic system and apply the brakes so that it will start slowing and breaking on its own. This does have a unique roller design that's going to help reduce any resistance during that telescoping action. So you're not going to have to worry about it binding up and not applying the brakes; it's going to be nice and smooth, it's going to create that straight line movement so that you make sure that your brakes are being applied. more

Today we're going to take a look at the Titan adjustable channel disc brake actuator with the reverse lockout and it has a 20,000 pound gross towing weight capacity. Now this hydraulic actuator will activate your trailer brakes when your tow vehicle slows or stops.Basically what happens is when you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs and the momentum will push the trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. So with a surge brake system, the actuators triggered and as your trailer moves forward, once your tow vehicle starts to slow down, the actuator will contract and apply force to the master cylinder that's in here and then this in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage your trailer's brakes. This one is a unique roller design. You can see the two rollers here, the two down here. These will help reduce resistance during the telescoping to create a nice straight line movement. And if you notice on the ends of those rollers they have grease zerk fittings that make it very easy for lubrication of the moving parts. This is a sturdy, durable steel construction. It will resist bending in any jackknife situations. more

Today, we're going to take a look at the Dexter DX7.5 Drop-N-Go Drum Brake Actuator for a two-inch ball. Has a 7,500 pound weight capacity. Now this hydraulic actuator will synchronize your trailer drum brakes with your tow vehicle brakes.Basically, what happens is this actuator works by the surge or the push of the trailer towards your tow vehicle. This automatically synchronizes the trailer brakes with the tow vehicle axle brakes, and when the trailer pushes against the tow vehicle, this actuator will telescope right down here together and applies the force to the master cylinder right back here and that supplies the hydraulic pressure to your brakes. In the inside they do use a built-in dampening shock absorber to retard the telescoping shock against the hitch ball. The rollers right down here, you can see there's two rollers. more

Today we're going to take a look at the Demco Hydraulic Drum Brake Actuator with the manual lockout eight inch adjustable channel and an 8,000 pound weight capacity. Now this hydraulic actuator will activate your trailer brakes when your tow vehicle slows or stops. Basically what happens is when you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs and the momentum pushes your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. So with the surge brake system like this, this hydraulic actuator is triggered as your trailer moves forward, once your tow vehicle starts to slow down. So when this happens, this actuator will contract, which will apply force to the master cylinder back here and this in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage your trailer's brakes. This actuator does use an acetal copolymer lining, which will ensure a nice smooth operation as the actuator telescopes in and out.If you notice right here, this is a manual reverse lockout and this will let you reverse without actuating your trailer brakes. So when you go in reverse, you don't want the brakes to be applied. So what you'll do is take this manual lockout, hook it right in there, and that'll keep it from going back to apply the brakes. more

Ellen: Hey, everyone. I'm Ellen here at eTrailer.com, and today, we're taking a look at the Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator. Now, chances are you're already familiar with what a brake actuator does, but just in case you're not, basically what this is going to do is act as our brake controller for our trailer. This works with drum brakes, and basically, it's going to activate those brakes by the slowing down motion of our trailer. So, as we're coming to a stop in our truck, our trailer is going to be pushing forward against the coupler or against our actuator, and that's going to push this in. It's going to activate our master cylinder, which then in turn, activates that hydraulic pressure to our brakes. The brakes engage, and they slow down our trailer. So, it all happens at once, but as that trailer moves forward, that's really what gives you that braking force. So, there's nothing that you have to do in your truck. more

Today we're going to take a look at the Titan Brake Actuator with 3" Drop. This is going to be a primed actuator that's going to fit your hydraulic drum brakes. It's going to work with your 2 5/16" ball, and it does a weld on design with a 12,500 pound capacity. This is going to be a great way to help your trailer come to a nice even stop, since this is going to apply your brakes in portion to how fast you're slowing down with your towed vehicle.Basically, this is just going to work on a mechanical principle. As you slow down, your trailer is going to want to push forward, and so that's going to active the actuator inside here, and push out that hydraulic fluid to your hydraulic drum brakes, so as you slow down, and it compresses, it sends out that fluid, and it brings you to a stop.Inside here we'll have a unique roller design. Basically, that just help to reduce any resistance, so it doesn't have to fight just metal to metal as it's coming to that stop. more

Review of Demco Brake Actuator - Surge Brake Actuator - DM8101801

Today we're taking a look at the Demco hydraulic break actuator. This is a surge type actuator, which basically means that as you come to a stop with your towing vehicle your trailer is going to push forward since it wants to continue that motion, that pushes against our actuator, which will activate its function to push out that hydraulic break fluid to our breaks and thereby slowing down our trailer. So, it's a mechanical break controller. It's going to help us to slow down our trailer so it's not pushing us forward. We'll have an easy latch coupler at the front to make it a lot easier to hook up to your trailer. Basically, whenever you're dropping the trailer down onto the ball this coupler is going to automatically come up and release, and then snap back in place. So, it makes that a little bit easier so you don't have to lift that up yourself, and have someone in the back. more

Today, we'll be taking a look at the Titan Brake Actuator. This is gonna act as a mechanical sort of brake controller for our trailer basically as we come to a stop in our towing vehicle. Our trailer's gonna wanna keep moving forward and that's gonna push against the actuator, which will activate it and then push hydraulic fluid to our brakes bringing our trailer to a stop. So, it's kind of a push pull system, makes for a mechanical brake controller. This works with our hydraulic drum brakes so we'll see at the back we'll have our connection point there for the hydraulic line. At the top, we'll have a cap for our reservoir. more

HydraStar Marine Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator Installation- Video

HydraStar Marine Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator Installation

Speaker 1: Today we're gonna be having a look at and showing you how to install the HydraStar Marine Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator with Breakaway and Seven Way RV Harness, rated at 1,600 PSI, this is part number HS381-9067. Now the reason you're gonna want an electric over hydraulic actuator to control your trailer brakes such as this one is because it's far superior than your typical surge coupler style brakes that your boat trailer's normally have. With your surge breaks you have no control over it whatsoever, with this you can dial up or down the intensity of the brakes being applied with the brake controller inside your truck. Also when you go to back up your trailer with surge brakes as soon as you start to back up the brakes are being applied, the more force they're using to back up the harder the brakes are gonna be applied unless you have a manual lock out which you have to get out of your truck, engage the lock out so you can back up without the brakes being applied. With this where you have your brake controller set up at when you're backing up that's how much the brakes are gonna be applied so it makes it easier to back your boat into the water down the ramp but yet you still have some brake assistance there so you don't have all the weight of the boat or the trailer dragging you into the water. Also with the surge coupler the way the brakes are applied is the weight of the boat and the trailer start to push the coupler against your truck and as the coupler collapses it applies pressure to the fluid and engages the brakes so there is a delay of the brakes being applied. With the actuator here being electric over hydraulic it's immediate, there is no delay so as soon as we start to activate our brakes in our vehicle the brakes are being applied in our trailer. Now this is a marine rated actuator, by being marine rated we have an aluminum construction here which is corrosion resistant and it is also vented to help relived pressure and let moisture escape. more

Speaker 1: Today we'll be having a look at the Dexter DX Series Electric Over Hydraulic Brake Actuator for Disc Brakes rated at 1600 PSI. This is part number K71-651. Here's what our actuator looks like installed. Now, the reason you're going to need an actuator like this is if you're running hydraulic disc brakes on your trailer and you don't have the ability to run a surge coupler. This is your only way to be able to power those hydraulic disc brakes, by supplying fluid pressure to them so they operate properly. Now, what sets this actuator apart from other electric over hydraulic actuators out there is that this one has a self priming pump. What that means is we don't need to worry about bleeding the actuator itself when we install it. more
